Healthy teeth and gums play a critical role in your pet’s overall health and well-being. Approximately 70% of small animals seen in veterinary hospitals have some degree of gingivitis or periodontal disease. When not addressed, these problems can lead to a host of other, more serious medical problems including disease of the kidneys, lungs, liver and heart. This can be prevented through routine veterinary dental care. At HanoverView Animal Hospital we hope that every pet needs only a “routine cleaning”, but we know there are times that your pet might need extractions or more advanced dental work. During our dental procedures your pet will be under general anesthesia with constant monitoring by a certified veterinary technician. We perform a thorough charting of the teeth looking for any signs of dental disease. Sometimes we need to utilize digital dental x-rays that provide us with crucial information about what is going on below the gum line. The teeth are cleaned with our ultrasonic scaler and then polished!
